Pregnancy interaction: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.

Side Effects: Low blood sugar. Signs include anger, shaking, a fast heartbeat, confusion, or sweating. Keep hard candies, glucose tablets, liquid glucose, or juice on hand for low blood sugar. Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. Weight gain.

How to use: This drug may be used alone or with other high blood sugar (diabetes) drugs. Take as you have been told, even if you are feeling better. Take with the first meal of the day. Follow the diet and workout plan that your doctor told you about.

How it works: Glimepiride raises insulin levels and helps tissues respond better to the insulin.
